FC Dallas Acquires Maykel Galindo

FRISCO, Texas (April 1, 2011) – FC Dallas has acquired the rights to forward Maykel Galindo from Chivas USA in exchange for a 2012 first round supplemental draft selection, the club announced today. Per league and team policy, terms of the deal will not be disclosed. Galindo spent the 2011 preseason with FC Dallas, tallying one goal and two assists. In 2007, he led Chivas USA with 12 regular-season goals and five assists to earn the club’s Golden Boot. With three sports hernia surgeries shortening his 2008 season, Galindo returned midway through the 2009 season to play in 23 games with four goals and two assists. Originally from Villa Clara, Cuba, Galindo sought political asylum in the U.S. while participating in the 2005 Gold Cup with the Cuban National Team, leaving the team hotel on July 10, 2005, just one day after scoring Cuba’s only goal in a 3-1 loss to Costa Rica at Seattle’s Qwest Field. He then began his professional career in the U.S. with the Seattle Sounders where, between 2005 and 2006, he scored five goals, including the equalizer in the 2005 USL First Division Championship Game (Seattle won on penalty kicks).
