The Texas Pre-Academy League is here

The long rumored creation of the Texas Pre-Academy league is ready to launch, fall 2011. In an announcement on the Texans SC website, the details of the league and the set of clubs in the inaugural group were revealed. The league is pattern after the Northeast Pre-Academy League which consist of 16 U.S. Soccer Development Academy(USSDA) clubs in the northeast region of the United State. The Texas league will also serve as a precursor to the U.S. Soccer Development Academy U18 and u16 division. The Texas Pre-Academy League will consist of three age division U-13, U-14 and U-15. With the the Texans SC press release, a foreshadowing of other regional pre-academy leagues announcements are just around the corner. The Texas Pre-Academy league will be part of of US Club Soccer’s National Premier Leagues (NPL) for boys. The winners of each league within the NPL will qualify for US Club Soccer’s inaugural National Premier Leagues Champions Cup beginning in July 2012. The Pre-Academy initiative has long been driven by the U.S. Soccer Federation as the next step in soccer development in the United State. Due to logistic and incurring additional travel costs, a substantial group of USSDA clubs pushed back the Pre-Academy concept. The other major impact is the diversion of players and teams away from long established local soccer associations. One of these major shifts occurred recently when a group of clubs succeeded from the powerful Cal South organization to form the Southern California Developmental Soccer League (SCDSL). The list of the inaugural group of clubs in the Texas Pre-Academy league was also telling for one Texas division USSDA club, Andromeda SC. Their initial exclusion seems to support rumors of their troubles.
