Arena dirigirá equipo de las Estrellas

NUEVA YORK (Miércoles, 30 de junio, 2010) – Debido a la gran actuación por parte del Los Angeles Galaxy durante la primera mitad de la temporada regular de la Major League Soccer, el técnico del Galaxy Bruce Arena dirigirá el Equipo de las Estrellas de la MLS en su enfrentamiento ante el campeón del 2009 de la Liga Premier de Inglaterra, Manchester United, en el Partido de las Estrellas de la MLS 2010 presentado por AT&T. El partido será transmitido en vivo por TeleFutura y ESPN2 desde el Reliant Stadium en Houston, Texas, el miércoles, 28 de julio a partir de las 8:30 p.m. ET. El director técnico del Equipo de las Estrellas de la MLS es decidido de acuerdo a su récord de puntos por partidos disputados hasta el 27 de junio. Con un récord de 10-1-3, con 33 puntos (un puntaje de 2.36 por partido), el LA Galaxy le aseguró la posición de técnico del Equipo de las Estrellas de la MLS a Arena. Arena se encuentra en su tercera temporada como director técnico del Galaxy. El año pasado, lideró a su equipo a la Final de la Copa MLS 2009, donde el mismo cayó ante los campeones de la Copa MLS Real Salt Lake en penaltis. Rojiblancos clasifican a final de USSF Academy

Los juniors del FC Dallas dirigidos por Oscar Pareja terminaron invictos la fase eliminatoria de playoffs, sumando 9 puntos en tres partidos disputados en su grupo C. Ahora se aprestan a jugar la etapa final programada para disputarse entre el 11 y 17 de julio en el Home Depot de Carson, California.
Para la etapa finalista los ganadores de los ocho grupos, de ambas categorías, fueron a su vez reunidos en dos grupos.

Grupo 1: Chicago Fire Academy, De Anza Force, D.C United Academy, Sockers FC.
Grupo 2: CASL Chelsea FC Academy, Internationals, Baltimore Bays Chelsea, Cal Odyssey.
El FC Dallas con un solo empate se ubicó en el último lugar del grupo H con dos puntos, en tanto que Dallas Texans fue último del grupo G con un solo punto.

The First 15 - FC Dallas Juniors

On May 19th, 2008 FC Dallas launched the Juniors and Academy program. The first 15 players were introduced to the public with a press conference launching the inaugural core of FC Dallas’s first youth players. In two short years, FC Dallas has built a development program that rivals some of the programs from both MLS and long established powerhouse clubs around the country. In their 2nd season in the USSF Development Academy season, FC Dallas will return to finals week as the lone MLS Academy playing for the USSDA U17/18 Championship. The USSDA Finals on July 10-18th at the Home Depot Center in California will also mark the end of the road for the remaining members of the first 15 FC Dallas Junior players. Youth soccer development in the U.S. is the current hot topic, we look back to present the first FC Dallas Junior class.

As soon as citizenship issues resolves, Ruben should be stealing headlines from Andy Najar of DC United as the next youth professional produced from the development program.

Paraguay y España completan los ocho

En hilarante encuentro que duró 120 minutos, más los descuentos, y terminó en lanzamientos de penales, el representativo de Paraguay venció a su similar de Japón por 5-3 y pasó por primera vez en su historia a cuartos de final dando un toque especial a esta etapa que no muchos pensaban que serían los guaraníes los que ingresarían a esta etapa selectiva.
Sufriendo pero con el corazón en la mano los sudameriacnos habían termiando empatados con una selección japonesa que se convirtió en una de las grandes sorpresas de este mundial. Fue el disparo de Yuichi Komano que pegó en el travesaño sin ingresar al arco el que desencajó la esperanza nipona de lo que aprovechó Paraguay para no errar ninguno de sus disparos. Después del 0-0, los encargados de anotar fueron Edgar Barreto, Lucas Barrios, Cristian Riveros, Nelson Valdez y Óscar Cardoso por Paraguay. Y por Japón lo hicieron Yasuhito Endo, Makoto Hasebe, y Keisuke Honda. En el octavo partido España, la favorita, David Villa marcó el único tanto que le dio el triunfo a los rojos sobre Portugal de Cristiano Ronaldo. Para Villa este fue su cuarto gol de cinco que ha marcado España en este mundial.

Holandeses y brasileños se abren paso

A paso de vencedores Holanda y Brasil dieron cuenta de Eslovaquia por 2-1, y Chile por 3-0, llenando el quinto y sexto cupos cuartofinalistas de este mundial sudafricano que poco a poco va llegando a su final.
Los goles holandeses llegaron por medio de Arjen Robben y Wesley Sneijder, en tanto que el descuento por Eslovaquia estuvo a cargo de Robert Wittek.
En el segundo partido del dia, los cariocas a ritmo de samba, con goles de Juan, Luis Fabiano y Robinho despidieron a Chile comandado por el argentino Marcelo Bielsa quien para este encuentro no pudo contar con sus zagueros Waldo Ponce y Gary Medel por acumulación de tarjetas amarillas, y de su mediocampista Marco Estrada que estuvo ausente por la misma razón.
Europeos y sudamericanos se enfrentarán el próximo viernes 2 de julio, partido que decidirá si es la naranja, o la banana mecánica el que siga aspirando a levantar la Copa.
Entre tanto mañana termina ronda de octavos de final con los encuentros entre Paraguay con Japón, seguido por España contra Portugal. Los ganadores ocuparán las dos últimas vacantes cuartofinalistas.
Entre tanto fuera de las canchas las seguidoras mundialistas están eligiendo a los "mejores" jugadores de este mundial. Hasta el momento comanda la tabla de los cinco "guapos" el portugués Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro, seguido por los estadounidenses Carlos Bocanegra y Benny Feilhaber; el brasileño Kaká y el mexicano Rafael Márquez.

Gol de colombiano Ferreira da triunfo a FC Dallas

El disparo de penaltie ejecutado por David Ferreira tras el derribo de Marvin Chávez dentro del area chica por Ante Jazic le otorgó el triunfo de 2-1 al cuadro texano sobre ChivasUSA y ascendió a la cuarta posición de la tabla de la conferencia del Oeste, puesto que comparte con San José Earthquackes.
El primer gol fue autgol del defensa Jazic y el descuento fue marcado por el salvadoreño Osael Romero marcando su primer gol en la MLS.
El próximo sábado 3 de julio FC Dallas recibirá a Kansas City en el PHP.

Alegría dominguera de alemanes y argentinos

Con goles de Vladimir Klose, Lukas Podolski y Thomas Mueller (2) Alemania eliminó a Inglaterra en un encuentro de octavos de final que permanecerá en la historia de este mundial no solamente por el marcador abultado en contra de los ingleses sino por el claro gol de Frank Lampard que no fue validado por el árbitro uruguayo Jorge Larrionda que pemitió siguiera el juego. Ese gol significaba el empate porque ya había anotado Matthew Upson empezando el descuento.
Después de esto todos recordaron el mundial Inglaterra 1966 cuando en la final que iba 2-2 tuvieron que irse a tiempo extra donde el disparo de Geoff Hurst chocó en el travesaño cayó cerca de la línea y fuera del arco pero el árbitro suizo Gottfried Dienst lo validó. Al final el partido terminaría 4-2 e Inglaterra ganaría su única copa Mundial.
Con su gol Vladimir Klose, sumó 12 e igualó al legendario Pelé en anotaciones en copas mundiales. Pero todavía sigue y puede cumplir lo que dijo antes de comenzar el de Sudáfrica, anotar 5 para igualar a Ronaldo que tiene 15 y pasar a su compatriota Gerd Müller que tiene 14.
Seguidamente Argentina con dos goles de Carlos Tévez, el primero adelantado pero validado por el árbitro italiano Roberto Rosetti, y el segundo, soberbio como para no dejar dudas de su calidad; y Gonzalo Higuaín, le dio el boleto de retorno a casa a Javier Aguirre y su cuadro que descontó con otro potente golazo de Javier Hernández salvando el honor mexicano en su último partido mundialista.
En la siguiente etapa Alemania con Joachim Loew se enfrentará a Argentina con Diego Armando Maradona. Si bien hoy todo es alegria para ambos cuadros el partido que jugarán será otro de revancha. En cuartos de final Alemania 2006 teutones eliminaron a gauchos en tanda de penales.

Uruguay y Ghana los primeros en avanzar

Dos goles de Luis Suárez le dieron el pase a cuartos de final a la selección uruguaya que después de sufrir mucho en un partido donde los surcoreanos no se amilanaron manteniendo el marcador parejo a hasta el minuto 80 donde Suárez terminó de definir quien sería el primer cuartofinalista de esta serie mundial. El descuento fue marcado por Lee Chung-Yong.
En el segundo partido sabatino la revancha no se cumplió. Ghana volvió e eliminar a Estados Unidos por 2-1 y pasó a cuartos de final. Kevin-Prince Boateng y Landon Donovan convirtieron para sus colores en tiempo regular, en el tiempo extra Asamoah Gyan anotó el gol del triunfo de la selección africana. En Alemania 2006 Ghana había eliminado a los norteamericanos en primera ronda. Esta vez se volvieron a ver las caras pero en la siguiente fase y nuevamente con el mismo resultado la carrera de los estadounidenses se quedó truncada.
Uruguay se verá las caras en cuartos de final con Ghana.

Mañana comienzan los octavos de final mundialistas

Con los encuentros entre Uruguay vs Corea de Sur a primera hora seguido por Estados Unidos vs Ghana mañana se da comienzo a la segunda fase eliminatoria mundialista 2010.
Terminada la primera fase clasificatoria Sudáfrica 2010, dieciséis selecciones han retornado a casa mientras que otras similares jugarán por lograr su pase a cuartos de final de un mundial que está dando sorpresas y, brindando belleza y emoción que suele despertar en los fanáticos del deporte más popular del mundo.
Hay que destacar que de las 16 octavofinalista América está bien representada con siete representativos; Argentina, Brasil, Chile, Paraguay y Uruguay por Sudamérica; Estados Unidos y México por Norteamérica. Por Europa están Alemania, Holanda, Eslovaquia, España, Inglaterra y Portugal. Asia está representada por Japón y Corea el Sur mientras que Africa por Ghana.
Eliminados el campeón Italia y el sub-campeón Francia, el 11 de julio saldrá nuevo campeón y sub-campeón. Dos selecciones de las que se esperaba más que el último lugar en sus respectivos grupos.
Fueron 48 partidos de 64 los que se jugaron y así quedaron los grupos

Chris Hayden and US National Team

Chris Hayden is Director of coaching of FC Dallas Juniors Academy player Development. Having managed the youth teams since 2006, Hayden oversaw the recruitment and launch of the FC Dallas Juniors program. A native of Dallas, Chris played collegiate soccer at the University of North Texas from 1986-1989 while earning a degree in Business Administration. Hayden also played professionally for the Dallas Sidekicks from 1994-1996 and currently holds a USSF A coaching license. He gave us his thoughts abou US Soccer National Team performance in SouthAfrica 2010.

TFG: Can you give us a short analysis about USNT in SouthAfrica 2010?

CH: I think that the US team now has players with international experience and experience from many of the players who play in Europe. This team will not go into the tournament thinking about whether they can advance but rather that they should get to the second round.
How good is to start against an old rival like England?It is great to play against England as the two countries are forever tied to each other through common history. The English team is very talented and has high hopes for the World Cup so it will be a great measuring stick for the USA.
How about the other first round rivals?

US will be favored in our other two matches but the we have had problems in the past as a favorite and usually do better as an underdog.4. How far do you think your national team will go?I think that the US will reach the second round or the quarterfinal but ultimately not get any further. We still need a more talented team to get by some of the more established and favored countries.

What is the strongest and weakest lines?

We have questions in all of the lines. In the back, we will have to see if Onyewu is healthy enough after his very serious injury and I think we still need a proven goal scorer at forward.
Important players on whom the team should lean on?This is a tournament for Landon Donavon and Tim Howard to shine. They will have to be very good. I am also interested to see if Michael Bradley emerges as a top performer during the tournament.
Team do you think will make the semifinals?

I like Brazil, Argentina, Spain, and Germany.
The two finalists?

Spain and Brazil.
Top scorer?

Miroslav Klose.
How does your staff is encouraging the juniors to watch the WC games? Are you getting together?

We are encouraging them to watch games but they are already very interested and very excited about the tournament. They are watching some games around our practices but they are doing it on their own.

Argentina según los Ojos de Ricchetti

El argentino Pablo Ricchetti, cuya carrera futbolística no ha terminado, desde su puesto de observador nos brinda su opinión acerca de la selección albiceleste dirigida por Diego Armando Maradona.
"Me parece que la primera ronda Argentina responde a las expectativas que todos los argentinos tienen sobre este equipo. Personalmente, tenía mis dudas acerca de como Maradona podía encajar las piezas, pero creo que más allá de algún que otro detalle lo ha hecho más que bien. Ha habido errores puntuales, como el de Demichelis ante Corea, pero el equipo se ve sólido, creando juego, situaciones y no perdiendo el balón con facilidad.

Además, Argentina cuenta con Messi, el mejor jugador del mundo incluso cuando no tiene su mejor día y todo un potencial ofensivo difícil de contener y eso hace las cosas más sencillas. Ahora vendrá México, un rival que suele hacerlo bien contra nosotros, pero confío en que la calidad y las variantes del equipo argentino van a prevalecer.

De todas formas, esto es fútbol y son muchos los factores que pueden cambiar el desarrollo de un partido. De algo estoy seguro, será un partido muy duro entre dos selecciones que intentan jugar por abajo y que poseen jugadores de una gran calidad técnica.

Ojalá que podamos ver un buen encuentro y que, sea cual sea el resultado, podamos sentirnos orgullosos del fútbol que los latinos podemos practicar".

Con gol de Donovan Estados Unidos está en 8vos de Final

Cuando Eslovenia se creía clasificada al término del partido con Inglaterra que salió vencedor por 1-0, el gol Landon Donovan en el minuto 92' sobre Argelia cambió el curso de la historia para llevar a ingleses y estadounidenses a octavos de final. El partido más vibrante porque tuvo que pasar los 90 minutos para definir al que iría a octavos de final fue definitivamente el jugado por Estados Unidos con Argelia, qué oportunidades desperdiciadas ya por Jozy Altidore o por Clint Dempsey que es el que había anotado el gol del empate contra Inglaterra inciando una carrera mundialista incierta. Luego de su segundo empate con Eslovenia, gracias a los tantos de Donovan y Michael Bradley, los estadounidenses seguían en carrera pero nadie esperaba que en las postrimerías del encuentro cuando los rostros de angustia y deseperación ya pensaban en el retorno a casa un experimentado mundialista Landon Donovan, aprovechando el rebote del disparo de Altidore, bola servida por Dempsey, que el portero Rais M'Bolhi no pudo atraparla la encajó con esa calidad de los grandes y no sólo le dio el triunfo a sus colores sino que Estados Unidos terminó primero en el grupo C con 5 puntos. A un largo sufrimiento una dulce celebración.

Fiesta mundialista en el PHP

Centenares de hinchas futboleros se dieron cita desde muy temprano al club del FC Dallas en el PHP para presenciar el partido entre México y Uruguay donde los celestes se impusieron 1-0 con gol de Luis Suárez . El desayuno estaba servido, las pantallas y mariachis cumplían con su labor de informar y amenizar el ambiente. Al mismo tiempo pudieron observar como la selección francesa era despedida por otra Sudáfrica eliminada que tuvo en Bongani Khumalo y Katlego Mphela los anotadores del 2 a uno que descontó Florent Malouda. "Creo que México no jugó bien pero quiero que clasifique junto a Uruguay" había dicho Dan Hunt que fue uno de los asistentes a la mañana futbolera. Los dos pasaron ahora se verán las caras con otros dos duros contrincantes.

Desde ya la apuestas corren para el Argentina-México, encuentro que será no apto para cardiacos, y el Uruguay-Corea del Sur en octavos de final una rueda que promete ser vibrante.

Rodriguez anotó hat trick

El delantero colombiano Milton Rodriguez anotó los tres goles con que FC Dallas venció a DFW Tornados en el partido de práctica que realizaron esta mañana como preparación para el partido que el próximo sábado jugarán frente a Chivas USA. Todos los goles se produjeron en la segunda mitad, tiempo en que ingresó el colombiano.
"Estoy muy contento de haber consguido esos goles, bueno para eso he venido y el gol que más me gustó fue el tercero, fue un centro y lo anoté de cabeza', dijo muy entusiasmado el delantero y aseguró estar acostumbrándose al clima que precisamente hoy fue de 101 Farenhetih grados que equivale a 39 hrados centígrados.
El portero Kevin Hartman quien vino a ganarse el puesto ya jugó de titular y espera continuar en el arco con un trabajo continuo. "El descanso fue muy bueno y ahora esperamos ir a sacar los puntos proque Chivas es un equipo que no ha sido afortunado pero que está tratando de acoplar a sus jugadores para salir a ganar".
Hartman también dijo habló de los porteros en el mundial "son cosas que suceden pero esos errores se debe a la pelota". Sus cuatro favoritos dijo son Alemania, Holanda, Brasil y Argentina. Sobre Estados Unidos, "van a luchar hasta el final".

Dos días después de haber retornado de Sudáfrica a donde acudió para presenciar la inauguración y los primeros partidos del Campeonato Mundial, Clark Hunt presentó oficialmente esta mañana a Douglas Quinn como nuevo presidente y director ejecutivo del club.
"Es un día muy emocionante para FC Dallas, estamos encantados de contar con alguien de gran trayectoria como es Douglas Quinn que trae liderzago y experiencia a nuestra institución", dijo.
Después de hacer un recuento de la trayectoria de Quinn, Hunt procedió a explicar la tarea que su reciente adquisición administrativa realizá. Entre otras de acrecentar la asistencia de aficionados al Pizza Hut Park.
Por su lado Quinn, dijo estar muy agradecido por la oportunidad de hacer posible el liderazgo que el club se merece". Reconoció que "el compromiso de la familia Hunt con el fútbol en los Estados Unidos ha sido palpable y fructífera a lo largo de los años, espero con la ayuda de los que nos apoyan hacer del FC Dallas un club de clase mundial".
Hunt agregó que "primero con el contrato de Schellas Hyndman, luego la llegada de Barry Gorman y ahora con Douglas Quinn se completa el grupo que debe liderar y llevar al club hasta el lugar que se merece".
Entre otras distinciones Quinn fue presidente de Soccer United Marketing por seis años e inspirador fundamental de la Superliga, a donde piensa reinsertar al FC Dallas que participó en una sola oportunidad.

Respecto a su estada en Sudáfrica Hunt dijo "fue una gran experiencia, vivir ese ambiente mundialista fue algo único ver banderas de todos los colores en las tribunas, anaranjadas, amarillas, verdes, por ahi la nuestra toda esa mezcla es algo inolvidable". Pero aseveró "eso no quita que el gol anulado a Estados Unidos fue una decisión errónea del árbitro, todos saltábamos de alegría pero cuando vimos que había sido anulado no lo podíamos creer, me puedo permitir en criticarlo porque no estoy hablando de los jueces de la MLS, pero al final del día se tienen que sobreponer y espera ral siguiente partido para demostrar lo que valen. Ojalá que mañana logremos un triunfo".

Pese a ello el nombre sigue sonando gracias a jugadores que pertenecen o pertenecieron al club que siguen en carrera en esta copa como es el caso del portero Josh Lambo que juega a préstamo por Tampa Bay Rowdies cuadro que eliminó a Legends FC al vencerlos por 3-0.
Otro cuadro que se ganó el derecho a participar en la Copa pero salió en la misma primera ronda es DFW Tornados que cayeron con los Austin Aztex por 3-0. El ex-jugador de Frisco Jamie Watson anotó dos de los 3 tantos con que vencieron a los dirigidos por Paul Robinson. El tercero estuvo a cago de Joey Worthen. También forma el cuadro de la capital texana el delantero Peri Marosevic que fue cedido a préstamo desde el 15 de junio al 4 de julio, al igual que el portero Sean Kelly que estuvo a prueba durante la pre-temporada rojiblanca.
Lambo y los Rowdies jugarán mañana con Miami FC, el ganador pasará a la siguiente ronda donde el Dynamo de Houston lo estará esperando. A propósito de Miami FC, cuenta en sus filas con Chris Gbandi en la defensa y Abe Thompson adelante, ambos ex-FCD. HUNT NAMES DOUGLAS QUINN AS PRESIDENT AND CEO OF FC DALLAS

FRISCO, Texas (June 21, 2010) - Hunt Sports Group Chairman Clark Hunt today named Douglas Quinn president and chief executive officer of FC Dallas. Quinn will begin his tenure with the club Aug. 2.

Quinn joins FC Dallas after six years with MLS affiliate Soccer United Marketing, the leading commercial soccer company in North America, where he served as president. Hunt said the hiring marked a significant development for FC Dallas.

"We are thrilled to welcome Doug to FC Dallas, and look forward to his leadership of the club for many years to come," Hunt said. "As one of the top executives in professional sports, I am confident that Doug will make FC Dallas the premier club in MLS for our fans and enhance Pizza Hut Park's standing as one of the elite entertainment venues in the country."

Upon joining SUM in May 2004, Quinn spearheaded MLS's landmark agreement with adidas and helped the league to realize a significant increase in sponsorship revenue and activation. Additionally, he developed the current business model for SUM and MLS special events, and he was a key member of the team that secured long-term national television agreements for MLS with ABC/ESPN, Univision, Fox Soccer Channel and HDNet. Most recently, Quinn managed the creation of SuperLiga, the innovative professional tournament between MLS and Mexico's First Division clubs that began in July 2007.

Quinn said he is excited about the future of FC Dallas and eager to begin his new role.

"I am humbled by the opportunity to lead FC Dallas and honored to be a part of the tremendous soccer heritage of North Texas," Quinn said. Quinn has extensive experience in the sports and entertainment industries, including 14 years with the National Football League in a number of senior management, marketing and sales positions. Prior to joining SUM, Quinn served as president of Entertainment Marketing Partners, an entertainment media and corporate consulting firm based in Los Angeles.

"Doug Quinn has been a great leader and valuable member of the MLS and Soccer United Marketing executive team," said MLS Commissioner Don Garber. "His contributions during the past six years have helped establish SUM as one of the pre-eminent soccer commercial companies in the world."

Quinn's career with the NFL saw him contribute to the NFL's triple-digit growth in retail sales during the early 1990s, as he developed many of the NFL's most successful integrated marketing programs with key corporate partners like VISA, FOX and Reebok.

In his role as senior vice president and managing director of NFL International, Quinn was responsible for the NFL's international operations and development activities, including management of a staff of more than 190 people across 11 offices, overseeing media sales, production and distribution, corporate partnerships, licensing and marketing. Quinn also supervised the development and production of the American Bowl games and the NFL's six-team development league, NFL Europe.

Born November 9, 1962, Quinn earned bachelor's degrees in marketing and English from Southern Methodist University and an MBA concentrating in international business and finance from the University of Texas. Quinn will be joined in Dallas by his wife Elizabeth and two daughters, Taylor and Schuyler.

Los Juniors sub-16 y sub-18 del FC Dallas se aprestan a participar de los playoffs de la US Soccer Academy Development 2010 que se realizará del 25 al 29 en Greensboro, North Carolina. Ambas categorías están entre los 64 equipos participantes de la Academia de Desarrollo de la Federación de Estados Unidos que lucharán por conseguir el título en sus respectivas divisiones. Todos los partidos se desarrollarán en los campos del Bryan Park Soccer Complex

Retornaron a los entrenamientos

A manera de retorno a los entrenamientos el FC Dallas jugó 45 minutos con el Regal FC, cuadro de la National Premier Soccer League al que vencieron por 3-0 con goles de Andrew Wiedeman (2) y Bruno Guarda. "no sabía nada de este equipo pero sirvió para dar actividad a la reserva y jugadores que necesitan ganar físico" explicó Schellas Hyndman sobre el eventual rival que vino desde Houston para rivalizar con los profesionales y juniors del club de Texas.

Sobre el accionar del delantero en entrenador dijo "creo que se le vio muy bien, ejecutó bonitos goles, con decirles que nunca ha estado en una situación de delantero por nosotros siempre ha jugado por derecha o izquierda y hasta defensa, por eso es muy bueno para ellos este tipo de partidos. El es un perfecto ejemplo cuando hablo de la necesidad de jugar más partidos".

Seguidamente los juniors que se aprestan a jugar los playoffs en North Carolina también dieron cuenta del equipo visitante. "Nuestro juniors si serán rivales de la reserva del equipo mayor cuando jueguen la próxima semana" dijo Chris Hayden Director de los académicos.

11 names to remember for the 2014 US National Team

The US Men’s National Teams will start their World Cup campaign this coming Saturday afternoon. This beginning will also be the start of the end for some of the members of the national team. Carlos Bocanegra and Steve Cherundolo will be 35 in 2014. Landon Donovan and Demarcus Beasley will be 32. These players will be into the twilight of their career. Although it is not impossible they may still play some part for the next campaign, players like Jozy Altidore; Stuart Holden, Jose Torres and Michael Bradley will be the foundation for the next generation. During this heighten period of media coverage, soccer writers and pseudo soccer writers dip their toes in to the US youth soccer landscape. Since they have taken those liberties, I feel no shame in doing so also. At least, I have seen all but two of these players. So here are my 11 names to remember for the 2014 World Cup US National Team, Generation Next.

Bill Hamid - 20 year old GK for DC United. Signed as a home grown talent from the DC United Academy system, the 6’3” shot blocker has already showed poise in starts for the 1st team in both MLS and US Open Cup games. The US is known for its GK talent and right now, Bill Hamid is top of this class.


Sean Franklin - RB with the LA Galaxy. Speed and poise. Along with Omar Gonzalez, Sean is holding down the backline for the best defense in the MLS. He offers good support in attack. He can also play the CB position but with his 5’10” frame, CB will not be his position for international play.


Omar Gonzalez - CB with the LA Galaxy. A starter in his rookie campaign which earned him the MLS Rookie of the Year award. Size and passing out of the back is a plus. Being one of the foundations of league leading team and logging valuable playing time, Omar may not be long for the MLS.


Ike Opara - CB for the SJ Earthquakes. Former U20 MNT starter, the more Ike plays the better he will be. It is simple as that. Ike’ hiatus between the College Cup and U20 WC didn’t have the best showing. He’s finally in pro environment. Ike has the talent to be one of the most dominating CB in US team history. I am that high on Ike.

Robbie Rogers - LM for the Columbus Crew. This is my biggest stretch. Robbie may have a successful career as a left midfielder in the MLS but I think he could have an above average international career as a left back. One of the fastest players in the MLS. An accurate left foot and a power shot with the right from 25+ yards out. He can claim that LB position if he makes the commitment.

Brek Shea - LM for FC Dallas. Anyone see him sees a world of talent. He needs playing time and some upper body strength. Size, speed and touch, he has all the tools. Brek is on the fast track to stardom.



Sebastian Lletget - 18 year old West Ham player. The little glimpse you seen with the U17 Men’s’ National Team showed he maybe on his way to be our #10. Call it what you will, Sebastian will be in a professional environment for the next four years playing with and against talent he would not see in the US.


Will Packwood - 17 year old player for Birmingham City Academy. Amobi Okugo and Dillon Powers should make this list but Will gets the nod for the same philosophical bias as Sebastian. At such young age, the 6’2” Packwood will be playing soccer year round against superior competition in his most important years of development.

Mikkel Diskerud - 19 year old with Stabæk of the Norwegian league. A former U20 MNT member. The RM is regular starter and contributor with Stabaek. “Mix”, as he is called, is rumored for a call-up for the 2011 Gold Cup

Felix Garcia - 20 year old Striker currently for Laredo Heat SC. This is my biggest reach as Tristan Bowen is sliding nicely into the striker role as the big boys are away for the LA Galaxy. Felix has to have some things break his way professionally and personally. But, I believe he has the gift for goals and he has the size, speed and skill to reach the next level.

Freddy Adu - Remember him? He’ll be 25 by 2014. You have to believe the stars will align for him professionally and maturity wise. Adu was never a speedster and may never be an above average defender. He does put the ball into the back of the net and his quickness in the box can still beat most defenders.

PREMIER FAILS TO FINISH SOUTH SELECT, 1-1

Houston, Tx (06/04/10) The Dallas Premier traveled to Houston Friday night to battle the Houston South Select in the WPSL opener for both teams. With them, the Premier brought all their high expectations and hype as they are expected to compete for the WPSL Championship this season. South Select came in with no expectations and only one thing in mind…bring your game on and we'll bring ours. For the second game in a row the Premier found themselves playing on a rain drenched, muddy field against a south Texas team. The Premier strengths were minimized by the field condition and a hard working South Select team found themselves in a 0-0 tie going into the 65^th minute. That is where F Sterling Smith took a pass out of the back from D Alicia Marshall and drove the ball down the sideline 25yards and put a cross to the near post where F Brittany Slyman one touched the well placed ball into the net. The way the Premier Defense had been playing this looked like it could be the game winner but 7 minutes later the South Select put a ball to space that was found by an all alone Select F Katlyn Ross 40 yards out. GK Meagan Wilson who had come out to retrieve the ball to space suddenly got caught near the top of the 18 and the ball was easily placed over her for the 1-1 tie. For the first time in their history the Premier will find themselves someplace other than first place. The Premier who outshot the Select 18-1 the first half and 30 -5 on the game played an uninspired match but still found lots of opportunities to finish some goals. A frustrated Head Coach Brian Flanagan commented, "We outshoot them with 15 out of 18 shots being saved by their goalie to their 1 and we come away with a tie. We have got to finish. The game isn't shots on goal its shots in the goal and that score was 1-1." Owner/GM Paul Marshall noted, "We had a completely out of sink team tonight. They didn't move around like they did in Alabama. But this was the second game in a row we played on a wet muddy pitch and that's like running in sand. Dead legs may have been the problem. But no matter how good or bad of a team we are playing, we better realize they are going to bringing their best game because of our reputation, everyone wants to beat us and if we don't come ready to play no matter how good we are we will get beat."

The Women's Premier Soccer League is an independent national league whose main focus is on the development of highly competitive amateur women's soccer teams.

The WPSL also makes every effort to bring quality soccer to all levels of the community and to promote the stature of female athletes as role models for our youth.

The WPSL was formed in 1998. It is sanctioned by the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) as an affiliate of the United States Soccer Federation (USSF), the ruling body of soccer in the United States and FIFA the world's ruling body for soccer.

The WPSL is unique in that it is an open league that is run by the teams. Each team gets one vote and decides all issues for the entire league. Anyone can access information about our league such as: current teams, rosters, statistics, schedules, results, constitution and by-laws, forms, meeting minutes and the latest league news at our website.

Our league expects new teams to conform to our minimum standards. We expect every team to achieve all WPSL standards. Standards that we stress include: a good playing surface, water for players provided by the home team, ice and a trainer at all games, professional conduct and adherence to the league constitution and by-laws.

The WPSL season runs from May 1st to August 6th. There is a league championship tournament that is held the last weekend of July or first weekend of August. The location of which is determined each year. Teams can expect to play 10-16 games during the season.

DFW Tornado Claims Open Cup Spot

The DFW Tornados claimed the Open Cup spot out of the Mid-South Division thanks to a 1-0 victory against the Houston Leones Sunday May 30th. A strike by defender Lucas Joiner in the 72nd minute provided the margin of victory for the Tornados. DFW finished qualifying at 3-1-0

It’s a great honor to have qualified,” Head Coach Paul Robinson said. “We’re excited about the opportunity to meet some new opponents."

The U.S. Open Cup is the country’s oldest cup competition. It is open to all affiliated amateur and professional teams in the U.S. In total, there are 40 teams that qualify for this year’s national tournament. That list includes eight teams from Major League Soccer and nine from the United States Soccer Federation Division-2 Pro League. Another six Open Cup teams come from the USL Second Division. Each of the PDL’s eight divisions has a qualifier. The final nine teams are from the United States Adult Soccer Association.

MCH: En la serie que le tocó los países son muy complicados y con muchas ganas de triunfar, pero no hay que menospreciar a Honduras, hasta un punto es bueno que no tomen en cuenta mucho a Honduras o no lo tomen de favorito, por ahi puede dar la sorpresa.

The Silly Season

Each year around May and June, parents, players and coaches of North Texas club soccer participate in an unwanted game of musical chair and Texas Hold’em. It’s not an exclusive phenomenon to North Texas as all over the country the silly season can turn a championship team from last season into a distant memory in matter of a minute. Season to season, there is always one event that sets in motion a domino effect of player and coaching movement that leaves some parents and players shaking their heads. This year’s big event was the $4 million cash infusion to Andromeda SC. The infusion of funds stabilized the club and helps retain their status as a top 4 boy’s select club in North Texas.

As a parent of a player on a select soccer team, it’s the nature of the beast. Nevertheless, this skill set that keeps your son and daughter on a quality team is not written in any handbook or on a website. More often than not, it’s a lesson the parents and players will learn the hard way. North Texas select soccer is a multi-million dollar business with potential college scholarships at stake. Parents and players starts earlier and earlier to position themselves with the right clubs and the right coaches. One of these coaches with this reputation is Marcio Leite a long time coach in the Dallas Texan organization. A Brazilian trained coach, Marcio has had the likes of MLS Rookie of the Year, Omar Gonzales; Professional players Greg Garza and Jared Jeffrey under his tutelage. Marcio Leite has lead his youth teams to Dallas Cup Championships and molded countless players into D1 college players. As of June 1^st, Marcio’s move to Andromeda SC was announced officially. As clean as this transition seems to be, his move was rumored for weeks in advance. Phone call, texts and message board rumors abound as parents and players try to figure out who they see at the different club's open secessions. May and June are open season for player to kick the tires of other clubs and coaches. Offline conversations and not to subtle hints foreshadowing each other intents, dancing in and out on player communication regulations. And typically around the beginning of July after try-outs, this covert game that mirrors an episode of the reality game show Survivor ends as the players signs their contracts.

It's has been a more eventful year than the past. The increase in coaching movement has cause a more intense domino effect of new teams forming and old teams looking for new direction. In the end, players and parents are just looking forward for the drama and stress to be over for another year. July can come fast enough in North Texas.

USSDA 2010 Playoffs - Texas Division

The Field is set for the 2010 United State Soccer Development Academy Playoffs. Texas division teams are well represented. Once again, the North Texas Club teams will be major players. Playoffs begins June 25-29, 2010 Bryan Park, N.C. U16 Finals July 9-17, 2010 and U18 Finals July 10-18, 2010 at Home Depot Center , CA.


Dallas Texans u15/16 - The Texans have not lost game since November 2009. SPARQ phenom, Caleb Richardson is a sight to see but this team has a wonderful blend of talent at all positions. Players to watch: Ini Bryce, Andre Reyes and Clint Ritter.

FC Dallas U15/16 - The FCD Juniors roster are dotted with current and former youth national team players. The team will also have the top 95/96 players from their pre-academy team available. Player to watch: Jonathon Top, Daniel Garcia and Emerson Hyndman

Dallas Texans u17/18 - The Texans allowed only 16 goals, top team in goals allowed and #3 in Pts/GP. The top defensive team of the 2009-2010 USSDA season. Notable win this season 3-2 victory over the U20 Japanes National Team in the Dallas Cup. Players to watch: Zach Barnes, Brandon Perez and Ryan Aubrey

FC Dallas U17/18 - Ruben Luna may get all the press but there are so many home grown candidates on this roster. the U18 squad are a legitimate contender for the title. Players to watch: Victor Ulloa, Marlon Duran and Bradlee Baladez
