MLS/NFL owner Clark Hunt will be a part of the Dallas representatives for tomorrow's FIFA World Cup committee tour of area sites. He has taken a moment to share with us some insights on the US bid.
TFG: In some of the earlier interviews with Sunil Gulati, the Dallas Ft Worth area has been highlighted as the kickoff and possible championship location for the US bid. What is the projected economical impact of hosting the World Cup in the DFW area?

CH: It’s difficult to put an exact number on it at this point, but the economic impact for any World Cup host region would be considerable. If the U.S. is chosen, I think soccer fans from around the world will view this region as one of the premier destinations of the tournament given the resources and attractions of Dallas and throughout the North Texas community.

TFG: Can you give us preview on what the FIFA tour will be like and what they will be evaluating during there stay in Dallas?

CH I think it will be an opportunity for the FIFA delegation to get a sense for the Dallas area, our hotel and convention spaces as well as the stadiums. There are several considerations that go into hosting a major event like the World Cup, and the tour will provide them with a first-hand understanding of what Dallas has to offer.

TFG: Does the early US elimination in South Africa 2010 present a road bump for the possible World Cup bid?
P: Cree que la eliminación temprana de Estados Unidos en Sudáfrica 2010 presentará un obstáculo en las expectativas de ser anfitriones?
CH I don’t think it will have any bearing on our bid. In fact, I think the overwhelming success of the 1994 World Cup in this country is much more relevant to FIFA’s decision than anything else. That being said, the U.S. Men’s National team continues to show its quality and ability to compete on the global stage. Although I’m sure that Coach Bob Bradley and the guys would have liked to have advanced further in the tournament, I was very proud of the effort the side showed in South Africa and the passion for soccer they inspired here in the United States.
R: No creo que tenga algo que ver en nuestra candidatura. De hecho creo que el abrumador suceso de la Copa Mundial 1994 en este pais is más relevante para la decisión de la FIFA que otra cosa. Dicho eso, la selección de varones de Estados Unidos continúa mostrando su cualidad y habilidad de competencia a nivel global. Aunque estoy seguro que al entrenador Bob Bradley y los muchachos le habrían gustado avanzar más lejos en el mundial. Yo estoy muy orgulloso del esfuerzo que se mostró en Sudáfrica y la pasión por el fútbol que ellos inspiraron aqui en Estados Unidos.
TFG: What do you think are some of the issues that will hinder the US World Cup bid? In your opinion, what are the strong points of the US World Cup bid?
P: Cual cree que pueden ser los problemas que puedan dificultar la puja ? En su opinión cuales son los puntos fuertes para ser elegidos?
CH I don’t know that there are hindrances to speak of at this point. We have some of the finest facilities in the world, and as I said previously, the success of the 1994 World Cup demonstrated this country’s ability to host the event and host it well. Whether the 1994 World Cup, the summer and winter Olympics or the Super Bowl, the United States has hosted the biggest sporting events in the world, and we’re a country with an ever increasing appetite for soccer. I’m very optimistic about the bid and our chances.
R: No sé cuales podrían ser los obstáculos hasta este punto. Tenemos una de la mejores instalaciones del mundo, y como dije anteriormente, el suceso del mundial 1994 demostró que la capacidad de este país de ser anfitrion, y de hacerlo muy bien. Ya sea el campeonato mundial 1996, los juegos de verano o invieron o por último el Súper Bowl, los Estados Unidos ha sido anfitrión de los más grandes eventos en el mundo, y somos un pais con un creciente apetito por el fútbol. Estoy muy optimista acerca de la puja y nuestras oportundiades.
