EULESS, TX - The DFW Tornados Men’s PDL Team is set for its most exciting and successful season ever, sporting a squad that is a solid combination of talent and skill, veterans and new faces. The recruitment effort has been wide and far-reaching this year. The coaches saw 140 players at this season’s tryouts and included players from the US, Scotland, England, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and El Salvador.

“The Mid-South division has always been a strong division," Head Coach Paul Robinson said. "We feel it has only become stronger. As a club we have stepped up, the boys have stepped up, the recruitment has stepped up. We are all looking forward to an incredible season.”

The team will boast 15 returning players, including Brazilian Paulo Da Silva, who has played for the FC Dallas Reserve team and has five years with the DFW Tornados team; Danny Woolard, who played in last year’s MLS final with the Chicago Fire; and five-year DFW Tornados player Chris Ross, who was drafted by Chivas USA in this year’s MLS draft.

Some additions from across the pond include Englishman Gifton Noel-Williams, a former player with Watford in the English premiership and USL Division 1 team the Austin Aztex; Scotsmen Stephen Shirley-Black, who has played with the Kansas City Wizards, and Jordan Mirch, a former member of the Scottish club Clyde.

The Ivo brothers, a duo from San Paolo, Brazil, both former DFW Tornados players, will appear on the roster together for the first time. Arturo and Ale are feared for their intelligence and tenacity on the field. Their talent, times two, will prove double danger for the Tornados’ opponents this season.

The harmony and camaraderie among the players is unique, the team being a fantastic combination of different nationalities and a balance of experienced players and lively youngsters. And there is more to come: the team awaits 15 players who are still in school on the East Coast.

After forcing a draw at the home opener versus the El Paso Patriots, the team looks forward to the match this Saturday (1 PM kickoff) against the West Texas United Sockers, as well as next week against the Laredo Heat, after which the team hits the road for some away games. The team is excited to be playing at the home stadium, Pennington Field, and Pizza Hut Park, home of FC Dallas. Friendlies are also scheduled against teams TBA.
