The Return of Felix Garcia

February 2009, a Houston Dynamo press release announced "Felix Garcia has returned to Laredo and decided that his priority is to finish high school before starting a professional soccer career, there is no timetable for his return to the team.", Felix Garcia fell off the US soccer grid after a whirlwind year and half of being the next youth prodigy. At the age of 17 playing for the Laredo Heat, the 6-foot-2, 165 pounds Felix burst onto the PDL with a blend of speed and fearless attitude for the goal. The Heat knew they had something special. Laredo owner Shashi Vaswani made a call to U.S. soccer national coach Juan Carlos Michia. Michia invited Garcia to an ODP training session in Brownsville, Texas. In the winter of 2007, Garcia made enough of an impression for a call-up by U.S. U-20 men's coach Thomas Rongen. He made his debut for the US National Team in the 2008 Copa Chivas with 3 goals in 5 games. The 17 year old sophomore from LBJ High School was the early leader for the #10 position the U20 US Men National Team.

In the fall 2008, Felix Garcia had a lengthy trial with FC Dallas. Oscar Pareja wanted to bring Felix in with the FC Dallas Juniors. But the MLS said Felix would not be eligible for the Jrs, as he'd has lost his college eligibility and committed himself to being a professional. In January of 2009, The Houston Dynamo acquired Felix in the special MLS allocation process through a trade. Felix returned to Laredo in February citing personal reasons. For the rest 2009, Felix spent time with his family, new born and coaching a local youth team forgoing his professional career and an opportunity in the 2009 Under-20 World Cup with the US Men’s National Team. Now, the 20 year old Felix began again where it all started. He has made his return with the Laredo Heat SC in April for the 2010 PDL campaign. In 3 PDL games so far, he has 3 goals. The early reviews are he has not lost a step. Felix will continue his comeback this Saturday as the Laredo Heat travels to Dallas to take on the DFW Tornados at Pennington Field, 7:30 pm.
